As educators, we often finish the school year carrying more than we realize. The final weeks are filled with graduations, evaluations, reports, celebrations, and planning for what comes next. When summer finally arrives, many educators immediately shift into preparation mode for the following year. Yet before we build, improve, or innovate, we must first rest.
Rest is not laziness. It is preparation. Just as athletes schedule recovery days to build strength, leaders need seasons of renewal to lead effectively. The strongest teachers and principals are not the ones who never stop; they are the ones who know when to pause, reflect, and refuel.
Summer provides a unique opportunity to step back and ask important questions:
What went well this year?
What drained my energy?
What gave me joy?
What should I carry forward?
What should I leave behind?
The answers to these questions often reveal the next right step.

Exercise
Prayer
Reading
Reflection
Creative thinking
